Employment Verification, I-9, and No-Match Letters: Facts and Myth
Employers are confused and concerned about employment verification, especially whether I-9 forms or other rules have changed under the current federal administration. These concerns grew with many employers’ receipt of new Social Security Number “no-match” letters – something that had not been seen in years. With these issues, and recent state laws limiting employers’ ability to take action, businesses can feel caught between a rock and a hard place.
This presentation addresses current employment verification forms and requirements, weaknesses in the E-Verify system, competing expectations (and rules) in different state and federal agencies, and best practices for handling both onboarding paperwork and the dreaded new “no-match” letter. We will also discuss issues faced by specific local industries and local employers. There will be time to discuss these issues as well.
